The Weir Group PLC has acquired Metra Equipment Inc. (Metra), a wellhead supplier based in Saskatchewan, Canada, for an undisclosed consideration. The company will be part of Seaboard, a business of Weir Oil & Gas’ Pressure Control Segment.

Metra is a niche provider of wellhead equipment and services located in Estevan, southern Saskatchewan (Canadian Bakken). The company sells, services and rents new and remanufactured wellhead, valve and frac tree equipment. Since its inception in 2007, the business has experienced strong growth and is now number two in its markets.

Seaboard in Canada is a leading provider of wellhead equipment, frac rental and field services to the oil and gas industry in Western Canada. Based in Edmonton, the business has service locations in Grande Prairie, Fort St. John, Red Deer, Lloydminster and a technical sales office in Calgary.

Cameron Smith, General Manager, Weir Seaboard Canada, said: “Metra is a well-respected provider of wellhead equipment to the oil and gas markets in Canada. We value the strong customer relationships and the reputation for flexibility, responsiveness, on-time-delivery, quality and reliability that the company has built up over the years. This acquisition creates opportunities to accelerate the growth of both businesses and expand our customer relationships.”

Burt Blondeau of Metra said: “The acquisition will allow us to expand our product offering and increase our service capabilities by leveraging Weir’s growing Oil & Gas service footprint. We believe this will help enhance our customer offering.”

Lyle Grube of Metra added: “We have spent much of the last few months getting to know the Weir management team and have visited the Weir Seaboard – Edmonton facility. We have been very impressed with the Weir management team and their capabilities.”
