SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Browning and
Tom Ciarlone, partners of Burleson LLP, will speak at a seminar on
oil and gas rights in Texas on Wednesday, August 27. The
all-day event will cover a number of opportunities and risks facing
the energy sector as a result of the surge in unconventional oil
and gas exploration in the Eagle Ford Shale and other
formations.
Browning will give two presentations during the seminar.
His first talk, titled Royalty Deed Interpretation, will
cover legal concepts for determining the nature of a royalty deed,
including discussions on whether a fractional of royalty or a
royalty fraction was intended, the legal ramifications of double
fractions in royalty deeds, and the distinction between a mineral
and a royalty conveyance/reservation.
His second talk, titled Allocation Wells, will provide
key insights on allocation wells, a relatively new concept in
Texas. This talk will further address the evolution of the
Texas Railroad Commission's related rules, scenarios for allocation
well use, the underlying case law for allocation wells, possible
allocation calculation methods, and conceivable pitfalls associated
with allocation wells.
Ciarlone's presentation is titled Trends and Tactics in Oil
and Gas Litigation. His talk will deliver strategies for
defusing class action lawsuits and handling opportunistic
landowners and frivolous surface use claims. He will also
address emerging issues and practical considerations in mineral and
royalty ownership disputes.
Browning is Board Certified in Oil, Gas, and Mineral Law by the
Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has practiced oil, gas, and
mineral law for more than a decade, focusing primarily on oil, gas,
and mineral title examination. He currently works out of
Burleson's San Antonio and Midland locations, where he counsels
clients on a wide range of oil, gas, and mineral title
matters. His background includes rendering drilling, division
order, leasehold, and acquisition title opinions for oil and gas
producing properties throughout the state of Texas.
Ciarlone, who practices oil and gas litigation and dispute
resolution from the firm's San Antonio office, is a key member of
Burleson's Texas-based Energy Litigation Group. He represents
a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 and other large
corporations, in a number of matters related to high-profile
securities, class actions, and other complex commercial
litigation.
Ciarlone recently played an instrumental role in the successful
representation of a gas gatherer and processor in a gas-allocation
dispute that culminated in a weeklong arbitration and a
take-nothing judgment against his client's opponent. His
broad-based experience also includes surface-use disputes, the
trial and appeal of cases involving title litigation questioning
the ownership of royalty and mineral interests, and sophisticated
commercial cases, including those concerning breach of
confidentiality agreements and theft and misappropriation of trade
secrets. He also represents hedge funds, banks, and high
net-worth individuals in a variety of investment-related
disputes.
The event will be hosted by Lorman Education Services, a company
that provides a range of programs for the legal industry. To
