CHICAGO, Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago advertising industry will honor David Selby, President of leading independent agency Schafer Condon Carter (SCC), with the Chicago Advertising Federation Silver Medal award for his career and community accomplishments. The award ceremony will be this Thursday, January 22 at a gala luncheon in Chicago.

David Selby, SCC President, will be honored with the 2015 CAF Silver Medal award for his accomplishments in the advertising industry and contributions to the Chicago community.

The Silver Medal is the highest individual honor awarded by the CAF. Some notable previous winners include: Rishad Tobaccowala (2013, DigitasLBI and Razorfish); John H. Johnson (2006, Johnson Publishing); Jack Klues (2005, Starcom MediaVest Group); Bob Scarpelli (2004, DDB Chicago); Rick Fizdale (2000, Leo Burnett); Tom Burrell (1997, Burrell Communications Group); and Keith Reinhard (1983, Needham Harper & Steers/USA).

"I am humbled and honored by this recognition for my accomplishments in the advertising industry and contributions to our Chicago community," said Selby. "I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the best people and organizations in the business, both agency and client, over the past 37 years, but it's ultimately the ad business that I really love, and coming to SCC six years ago was the best decision I've ever made."

Selby began his career with Leo Burnett and later became Chief Marketing Officer for two high-visibility Chicago companies: Sears, Roebuck and Company and Potbelly Sandwich Works. He joined SCC in 2009 as President. He also serves on the Board of Managers of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago and was recently named Chairman of the Governing Board of Gilda's Club Chicago.

"All of us at SCC are incredibly proud to have a good friend and wonderful business partner receive such a prestigious honor," said Tim Condon, Founding Partner and CEO of SCC. "It is a testament to David's character, positive energy and the creative and strategic skills that he brings to SCC and our clients every day."

SCC Nearly Doubles in Size Since Selby Joined Agency

Starting in Condon's River North apartment in 1989, SCC has booked 25 consecutive years of profitable top-line growth, even through the economic meltdown of '08 and '09, the year Selby was brought in as President. "David stopped by our bar for a beer one evening and within 10 minutes of talking with him I knew we had to have him join us," said Condon. "Plus, he's a musician, and where else is he going to work where there's a drum kit and bandstand in the company's bar?"

Condon noted that SCC posted another year of double-digit growth in 2014, became a Procter & Gamble agency and teamed with private investors to launch Captivate, a pioneering mobile engagement company, all while parting ways with its largest client. "Our business has nearly doubled in the last four years, and while it's certainly a team effort, David has had a lot to do with that success."

SCC's recent wins include Orbitz, Kerrygold brand butter, cheese and cream liqueur products, Ideal Industries and Winona Capital. The agency's strategic and creative work also reversed two decades of flat or declining sales for the National Pork Board, helped the Chicago Cubs overcome six years of declining attendance and helped turnaround the Allen Edmonds Shoe Corporation.

SCC's Business Incubator Leverages Agency Business and Marketing Acumen

SCC also operates a brand incubator as an equity investment operation with a built-in marketing consultancy. In 2014 it teamed with private investors to launch tech start-up Social Market Analytics, which is now the world leader in social media analytics for the financial industry. In 2012, SCC took a majority stake in the Uncle Dougie's brand of sauces, marinades, rubs and mixes, and now the company is delivering a 300% increase in sales through expanded US distribution and export to Canada, the UK and Germany.
