SEATTLE, Jan. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Grammy-award winning hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have created a new state-of-the-art studio using acoustic treatment from Vicoustic.

Ryan Lewis, the duo's music producer and film director, said he and Macklemore chose Vicoustic to provide an acoustic solution when they moved from a 100-square-foot studio to a new state-of-the-art facility, which includes a top-of-the-line control room, vocal and instrument booths, and a large tracking room.

"The people of Vicoustic were very instrumental in helping us to create this space," said Lewis, who notes that the top challenge for musicians working in a studio is fatigue from repeatedly listening to tracks to make sure they're perfect. "One of the huge advantages to having Vicoustic set up our control room is that when it's silent and treated, you're able to listen at lower volumes," Lewis explained. "Vicoustic really transformed it pretty significantly. It's brand new for me to be in an environment that is neutral. That's what helps make a studio a studio."

Lewis was most impressed with the rapid transformation of the duo's large tracking room for which Vicoustic North America recommended a calculated mix of reflective and diffusive panels to increase the room's reverberation time to achieve the desired "live" sound.

"Vicoustic offers an extensive product catalog that includes many innovative solutions that are perfectly suited for music production and broadcast environments," said Burt Goodman, chief executive of Vicoustic North America, based in Seattle. "Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are a pleasure to work with because they understand that there is no substitute for the flexibility of a controlled studio space."

Lewis, who likes to know what to expect, worked with Vicoustic North America's in-house interior designer, Loren McLean, to choose a custom setup from numerous design options and then preview a 3D rendering prior to installation. "There's a lot of variables when you're doing a design, one of which is what do panels look like because they basically become your wallpaper," said Lewis. "Vicoustic has a lot of options. Before you start to place these things you have a pretty strong idea of what you're in for."

Lewis said his favorite panel is Vicoustic's skyline diffuser known as Multifuser Wood 36, constructed with 36 large painted solid wood squares, which he said are so attractive he could see people hanging them on their walls for decoration, even if they had no idea they were for acoustics. When commenting on Vicoustic's Cinema Round Premium absorption panel, Lewis noted that the highly absorptive "felt-like panels are affordable and clean." In addition to its products, Lewis also praised Vicoustic's employees, saying the work they did helped him create a space that is "going to change the way that he makes the next record. You'll hear the results!"
