The online degree combines CPA-focused
accounting skills and foundational business knowledge
Increased regulation and globalization have added new complexity
to the role of accountant, requiring deep accounting skills and the
broad business knowledge needed to partner effectively with other
organizational functions. To prepare accounting professionals to
meet these needs, Capella University has launched an Accounting
CPA pathway as part of its Bachelor of Science in Business
online degree program. The new pathway also provides many of the
specialized accounting credits needed to prepare for licensure as a
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), the accounting industry’s most
respected credential. Capella University
(http://www.capella.edu) is a regionally
accredited online university* that offers online
degree programs designed to help working adults advance in
their careers.
“Capella’s Accounting CPA pathway includes fundamental
accounting concepts, such as budget analysis, investment planning,
and internal control audits, plus deep knowledge in emerging areas
that impact the profession today, including accounting ethics,
forensic accounting, and international accounting,” said Barbara
Butts Williams, Ph.D., dean of Business at Capella University’s
School of Business and Technology. “The program is also designed to
help students develop the management, interpersonal, and
professional skills required to advance in business—while also
earning a significant portion of the credits necessary to sit for
the CPA exam. Within the accounting profession, CPA licensure is
the gold standard that can open up a wide range of career
opportunities, and we want to help prepare our students to take
that next step.”
Flexibility, support, and discounted prep courses help
prepare students for CPABecause the educational requirements
for CPA licensure vary from state to state, Capella’s Accounting
CPA pathway includes built-in flexibility that enables students to
tailor their program to their state’s requirements. Students also
have access to personalized help from Capella’s experienced team of
licensure support counselors, who can help students navigate their
state’s educational requirements for the CPA exam.
To further support the career goals of Accounting CPA pathway
students, Capella has partnered with Roger CPA Review to
offer its industry-leading CPA exam prep course at a significant
discount. Discounts for the Roger CPA Review CPA exam prep course,
which has the highest CPA exam pass rate in the industry at 88
percent, are available to all students and alumni of Capella’s
bachelor’s and master’s accounting specializations.
For students who already have a CPA or other certifications such
as Accredited Business Accountant (ABA®) or Certified Management
Accountant (CMA®), Capella offers the opportunity to earn credit
for previous training and college-equivalent training, which can
save time and money toward earning a degree.
