has announced the addition of the "Fruit Juices, Energy & Juice
Drinks Market Report 2015" report to their offering.
This market report examines the UK market for fruit juices,
energy drinks and juice drinks. These categories include a range of
products, including flavoured water, sports drinks and smoothies,
alongside traditional products in these sectors.
The UK market for fruit juices, energy and juice drinks
performed strongly in 2014, with value growth estimated at 1.6%,
while volume sales are estimated to have increased in the same year
by 2.2%. Over the last 5 years, however, volume growth has
fluctuated to a certain degree, while unit price increases have
driven constant growth in market value.
Energy drinks have been the stand-out sector of the market over
the 5-year review period, witnessing significant year-on-year
growth, both in terms of volume and value, despite the high sugar
content of many products within the category, which is an
increasing concern among health-conscious UK consumers. Juice
drinks have also performed strongly, benefitting from a combination
of low product prices and hot summer weather, while the remaining
sector, fruit juices, has struggled, following criticism of
natural' sugar content, premium prices and the preference for juice
drinks during hot weather.
The debate surrounding excessive sugar consumption and its
impact on obesity levels, diabetes and general public health is
probably the most significant issue affecting the soft drink
market. While the sector has been quick to respond to criticisms
and demand for healthier products, through the development and
release of low- and no-sugar alternatives across products
categories, there remain many across the Government and public
health bodies that continue to push for increased taxation on
sugar-sweetened drinks and/or any high-in-sugar food and drink
products. In June 2014, Public Health England (PHE) announced it
would be undertaking an assessment into the evidence regarding
fiscal measures to support sugar reduction, including an
examination of taxation in this area, which was recently
implemented in countries such as France, Hungary and Mexico.
Despite these issues, and provided there are no changes to
taxation, the market for fruit juices, energy and juice drinks is
expected to achieve healthy value growth over the next 5 years,
with a particularly strong performance expected in the energy
drinks and juice drinks sectors.
