PANORAMA, BC, March 5, 2015 /CNW/
- Canada's Mac Marcoux and brother BJ Marcoux (guide) skied
hard during Thursday's Super-G (visually impaired) race at the IPC
Alpine Skiing World Championship in Panorama, BC claiming silver –
making it two podiums in two days for the Marcoux brothers.
"We got off to a little bit of a slow start, then coming down
into the speed sections we started to pick it up from there,"
explained BJ Marcoux. "We raced pretty solid and we ended up in
second place, which is great!"
Three-time Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games medallist Mac Marcoux, of Sault
Ste Marie, ON will add this silver World Championship to his
already successful season. On the world cup circuit Marcoux secured
eight podium finishes, five of which were 1st, resulting
in securing the coveted Crystal Globe and title: Overall World Cup
athlete.
Marcoux was just shy of 1st place Ivan Franstev of
Russia (1:23.63), sitting +0.41
behind and Miroslav Haraus of Slovakia finished 3rd (1:24.81)
On Wednesday, March 4th
the Marcoux brothers won gold in the Men's Downhill (visually
impaired) in Panorama, BC at the IPC Alpine Skiing World
Championships. Thursday's silver now marks the 2015 IPC Alpine
Skiing World Championships, as Marcoux's most successful world
championships yet. In 2013, Mac
Marcoux won silver in Giant Slalom at the La Molina, Spain
IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships.
Mac Marcoux beamed with pride
when he shared the words his mom said to him right after the race,
"I am really proud of you." By the way the crowd were cheering him
on, it is safe to say Canadians are also very proud of their
Marcoux brothers.
Six other skiers represented Canada in Thursday's Super-G. In the men's
Downhill (Standing) Matt Hallat, of
Coquitlam, BC, claimed
13th (1:25.95) and Kirk

edge and DNF'ed 5 gates before the finish.
Hallat, who experienced a little bobble at the top the run, did
say he was satisfied with today's run, but is eager to bring a
little more for Saturday's Super Combined.
The Men's Super-G (Sitting) was an extremely tight race. The top
eight racers were within 1.44 seconds of each other. Kurt Oatway of Calgary, AB had a strong start, caught an edge
in the middle of the track and finished in 17th.
