TORONTO, May 26, 2015 /CNW/ - PortsToronto is pleased to announce that from August 20-22, Sail-In Cinema – the free, summer floating film event – will return to Toronto's waterfront. The three-day film event will once again feature one of North America's largest screens, erected on a custom barge and anchored in Toronto harbour, for the enjoyment of boaters and landlubbers alike. The theme for this year's free film event is "Flashback the 80s" and will feature three films from the era chosen by the public through a vote being held June 18 to July 16.

Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. each night with the film beginning at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.). Non-stop activities, free samples, food and entertainment will once again be offered by event sponsors prior to the start of each night's feature film to provide a full evening of fun for all in attendance.

"For the past four years, Sail-In Cinema has offered Torontonians the unique opportunity to see their favourite movies on a massive, floating screen from either the promenade at Sugar Beach or their boat out on the water," said Geoffrey Wilson, Chief Executive Officer of PortsToronto. "PortsToronto is pleased to once again invite the community down to enjoy a free celebration of film, family and fun on Toronto's incredible waterfront – this time, as we flashback to the 80s to enjoy some of the best movies of all time."

Since launching in 2011 as part of PortsToronto's centennial celebrations, Sail-In Cinema has grown to become a much-anticipated event for Torontonians, attracting up to 6,500 people on land and 90 boats each year. The event features a two-sided inflatable screen with a 40x20-foot viewing surface, which sits in a four-story tall frame and weighs more than 700 lbs. making it one of the largest outdoor movie screens in North America. The screen will sit on a 60x90-foot barge that was custom-made for the Sail-In Cinema event.

PortsToronto is delighted to have new and returning partners this year including Redpath Sugar, the Toronto Star, CP24, Porter Airlines and The Waterfront BIA.
