Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Calgary, Alberta and Whitehorse, Yukon from July 4 to
8, 2015.
In Calgary, they will attend
the Queen Elizabeth II Cup competition at Spruce Meadows, which is
celebrating its 40th anniversary. While in Whitehorse, His Excellency will participate in
the inauguration of Yukon's
Government House, attend the Annual Conference of the Governor
General, Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners and
present the newly created Polar Medal during an inaugural
ceremony.

Elizabeth II Cup at Spruce Meadows
Their Excellencies will
attend the Queen Elizabeth II Cup competition taking place during
the North American Tournament at Spruce Meadows, which features the
best show jumping athletes and horses from throughout the Americas
and Europe. Their Excellencies
will arrive by landau and watch the Parade of Nations. Prior to the
show jumping competition, the Governor General will receive the
"Vice Regal Salute" and conduct an inspection of the Lord
Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) guard of honour. This will be
followed by a feu de joie rifle salute and a march
past. After the main event, Their Excellencies will participate in
the award ceremonies.

Yukon's Government
House
The Governor General will join the Honourable Doug
Phillips, Commissioner of Yukon,
and the Honourable Darrell Pasloski, Premier of Yukon, to dedicate the historic Taylor House as Yukon's Government House, home of the Office
of the Commissioner. On this occasion, His Excellency will deliver
remarks and take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Constructed in 1937, Taylor House
is recognized for its architecture and its association with the
Taylor family who contributed to the early growth and economic
development of Yukon through the
Taylor and Drury Company.

Presentation Ceremony of the Polar Medal
His Excellency will
preside over the inaugural presentation ceremony of the newly
created Polar Medal. The names of the recipients and their short
citations will be released at a later date.
The Polar Medal celebrates Canada's Northern heritage and recognizes
persons who render extraordinary services in the polar regions and
Canada's North. Part of the
Canadian Honours System, the new medal elevates the way we
recognize individuals who contribute to Northern communities and to
our understanding of Northern
Canada and its people. It also highlights their achievements
