Pan Am flame will visit Ontario Place West Channel, daytime celebration at Ontario Science Centre and evening celebration at Humber College

TORONTO, July 4, 2015 /CNW/ - On Monday, July 6, Day 37 of the Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President's Choice® and OLG, the Pan Am flame will visit several neighbourhoods in Toronto.

The flame will first visit S.H. Armstrong Community Centre and then travel through the streets of Toronto to the Ontario Science Centre for a community celebration. In the afternoon, torchbearers will carry the flame to Ontario Place West Channel, where it will be carried by world champion Whitney McClintock in an alternative mode of transportation: waterski. The relay day will conclude at Humber College's Lakeshore campus when Natalie Spooner, Olympic gold medallist in ice hockey, lights the community cauldron.

Monday, July 6, 2015 (Relay Day 37: Toronto, ON)

S.H. Armstrong Community Centre10 a.m. (ET) (56 Woodfield Road, Toronto, ON)
Start of day celebration:

  • Adelle Dubczak will be the first torchbearer of the day and will pass the flame on to Patrick Chan, three-time world champion and two-time Olympic silver medallist in figure skating.

Regent Park Aquatic Centre – 11:05 a.m. (ET) (640 Dundas Street East, Toronto, ON)
Photo opportunity:

  • Rahul Bhardwaj, president and chief executive officer of the Toronto Foundation and chair of TO2015's IGNITE program, will carry the Pan Am flame at 11 a.m. as part of the relay segment leading into this location.
  • Sureya Ibrahim, Regent Park resident, will arrive carrying the Pan Am flame.

Thorncliffe Public Library – (48 Thorncliffe Park Drive, Toronto, ON)
Photo opportunity:

  • Steven Gorgievski will arrive at 12:50 p.m. and will pass the Pan Am flame to Jaime Deane who will depart this location carrying the flame.

Ontario Science Centre – (770 Don Mills Road, Toronto, ON)
Day celebration:

  • Jamaal Magloire, former NBA player for the Toronto Raptors, will arrive carrying the Pan Am flame at 1:30 p.m. and will light the community cauldron.
  • Marissa Papaconstantinou will depart the celebration at 2:30 p.m. carrying the Pan Am flame.

Ontario Place West Channel2:50 p.m. (ET) (Marilyn Bell Park, 851 Lake Shore Boulevard West, Toronto, ON)
Photo opportunity:

  • Whitney McClintock, Pan Am multi-medallist and world champion, waterski, will carry the Pan Am flame while waterskiing.

Humber College, Lakeshore campus – (3199 Lake Shore Boulevard West, Toronto, ON)
Evening celebration:

  • Jason Burnett, Olympic silver medallist in trampoline, will carry the Pan Am flame at 6:40 p.m. as part of the relay segment leading into the evening celebration.
  • Natalie Spooner, Olympic gold medallist in ice hockey, will arrive at 7 p.m. carrying the Pan Am flame and will light the community cauldron.
  • Quique Escamilla will perform at the celebration.

The Pan Am Games Torch Relay is a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities. The torch relay is one of the most exciting events as it sets the stage leading up to the Games.  There will be more than 3,000 torchbearers and 180 community celebrations taking place.
