MCKINNEY, Texas, July 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Globe Life And
Accident Insurance Company has asked wounded veteran Corporal
Jacob Schick of the United States Marine Corps to throw out
the first pitch at the July
28th game at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The Texas Rangers will be hosting
the New York Yankees before an expected sell-out crowd. Globe
Life's Vice President of Marketing, Corey
A. Jones, stated, "As part of our Globe Life Park agreement
with the Rangers, we have the privilege of throwing the first pitch
at one game a year. This year, we decided to use that benefit to
honor a wounded warrior. Jacob
Schick was our first choice and his story is inspiring to us
all."
Cpl. Schick sustained multiple injuries when his Humvee hit a
triple-stack tank mine in 2004 in Iraq launching him 30 feet. He suffered
compound fractures in his left leg and left arm, multiple skin,
ligament, and bone loss, partial loss of his left hand and arm,
broken ribs, and amputation below the knee of his left leg.
He has undergone 46 surgeries and 23 blood transfusions.
Cpl. Schick had a small role in the blockbuster film, "American
Sniper". The film directed by Clint
Eastwood and starring Bradley
Cooper, portrayed the life of fallen soldier and legendary
Navy Seal Chris Kyle. He's also been featured in James Gandolfini's HBO documentary titled "Alive
Day" and his writings have been featured in Psychology Today.
"At Globe Life", Jones went on to say, "we believe life
insurance is about being selfless. It's about being selfless for
your family. We love stories of people sacrificing and being
selfless for those they love. What's more selfless than laying your
life on the line for your country? We are thrilled that the Texas
Rangers give us an outlet and a stage like this to honor our
heroes."
Cpl. Schick was born and raised in Bossier City, Louisiana, but today, resides in
Frisco, TX with his wife and one
child. Schick manages warrior relations for the Center for Brain
Health in Dallas which he credits
for helping him recover from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
In addition to having Corporal Schick throw out the first pitch,
Globe Life will host the Schick family and other wounded veterans
and their families in a suite at Globe Life Park.
