PARIS--Sales of new cars in France rose 7.1% in April compared with the previous year, the country's car-manufacturers association said Sunday, after rebounding in 2015 as the French economy expanded at its fastest pace in four years.

New registrations of personal cars grew to 182,875 vehicles year-to-year in April.

The CCFA said registrations of cars made by PSA Peugeot Citroen (UG.FR), the country's top seller, rose 5.3% in the month, while registrations of cars made by Renault SA (RNO.FR), Peugeot's domestic rival, rose 6.2%.

New registrations of cars made by foreign manufacturers rose 8.9%. The top foreign seller in France, Volkswagen AG (VLKAY), saw the registrations of its group's cars rebound 4% during the month.
