SYDNEY--BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP.AU) appointed former Origin Energy Ltd. (ORG.AU) chief executive Grant King to its board and said nonexecutive director Pat Davies will retire.

BHP said Mr. King, 62, will join the board in March, while Mr. Davies will step down the following month to focus on a family business and pursue other interests.
