Will Work On A New Platform To Give Brands
Access To Large, Quality Audience In Trusted Environment
News Corp Chief Executive Robert Thomson announced today that
Jesse Angelo will become Chief of Digital Advertising Solutions,
overseeing a new advertising platform to give brands a direct way
of targeting a large, high quality audience of potential customers
in a trusted environment. The platform is expected to launch
later this year.
Mr. Angelo will help coordinate the platform’s development and
launch, and serve as its ambassador to the advertising community.
He will continue serving as CEO and Publisher of the New York
Post.
Among the News Corp businesses expected to be involved in the
new platform, which will initially launch in the U.S. market, are
Dow Jones, including the Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Barron’s
and Mansion Global; the New York Post, News America Marketing, with
its fast-growing digital company, Checkout 51, and realtor.com®,
which itself has had close to 50 million monthly visitors and a
supply of high quality data about motivated purchasers.
“With brands searching for trusted and transparent platforms to
reach high-quality, engaged audiences, this is the perfect moment
to launch an alternative to the digital platforms that have
arbitraged ambiguity and compromised the integrity of advertising,”
said Mr. Thomson, to whom Mr. Angelo will report. “We are inspired
by the success of News Connect, an advertising platform created at
News Corp Australia in 2015, which combines audiences and data from
a number of our publications and businesses to give brands the
reach and reaction they need for success.”
Each of News Corp’s businesses will continue operating their
independent ad sales operations, with the new platform being
offered as an additional promotional opportunity. Revenues from the
initiative will flow through to the business units of News
Corp.
“Advertisers can be confident that through News Corp and its
businesses they will reach premium, passionate audiences in digital
environments that will enhance, not damage, their brands and
products,” said Mr. Thomson. “Jesse is the ideal evangelist for our
company to the advertising community at large and to the teams
within our businesses, who will be collaborating more closely than
ever to ensure that News Corp is greater than the sum of our
parts.”
“At a time when brands and agencies seek quality audiences at
scale, with simplified engagement and execution, News Corp is
well-suited to meet that urgent need,” said Mr. Angelo. “News Corp
and its platform can do what some other digital giants cannot,
because we have great content from trusted mastheads and
businesses, award-winning brand studios, a wealth of data, and a
large, engaged and high-quality audience, precisely the people
advertisers want to reach.”
The goal of the platform initiative is to connect digital assets
across News Corp’s business units to offer advertisers a
“one-stop-shopping” opportunity to reach a large, sophisticated
audience in a trusted and quality online environment, and in a
targeted, measurable manner.
“In this era of fake and fatuous news, faulty metrics and faux
audiences, advertisers crave authenticity and veracity. News Corp
and its world class brands can provide both,” said Mr. Thomson.
“And as a recent series in the Times of London demonstrated, too
many brands are finding their digital advertising alongside sites
that promote terror, hate or pornography.”
Following its launch in 2015, News Connect has seen growth in
Australia and has improved the reach, scale and accuracy of
targeting campaigns, leveraging data science techniques to deliver
relevant brand messages to future customers.
Mr. Angelo has been in his current position with the New York
Post since 2013. He is also the Executive Producer of ‘Page
Six TV,’ which launches in Fall 2017, and is on the board of
Unruly, a leading video ad tech company acquired by News Corp in
2015.
