To enhance its ability to investigate incidents or community complaints regarding air quality, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) will work with Envirosuite Limited, a leading environmental technology company based in Australia with its U.S. headquarters in San Francisco.

By deploying two of Envirosuite’s cloud-based monitoring modules, BAAQMD will be able to enhance the management of air quality and meteorological data from its continuous monitoring network.

Established in 1955 as the first regional agency of its type in the U.S., BAAQMD is responsible for monitoring sources of air pollution in the nine counties that surround San Francisco Bay.

The work for BAAQMD marks the second major client win in California for Envirosuite. Earlier this year, Envirosuite signed a similar deal with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) in Southern California.

Peter White, CEO of Envirosuite, notes, “This is the most significant license agreement we have signed to date. The early adoption of Envirosuite by two of the world’s leading environmental agencies illustrates that Envirosuite is the global benchmark in environmental management technology.”

White continues, “This initial contract with BAAQMD is a further demonstration that Envirosuite offers distinct benefits to regulators, in addition to key industry sectors. Regulators and industry are actively engaging with new technologies in the effort to meet legal and community expectations with respect to environmental quality. Envirosuite is very well placed to be an important player in these exciting times. This win is a significant statement in the global regulatory market that will resonate through this target vertical, adding credibility in our dealing with the many opportunities we now have before us.”

The two Envirosuite modules to be deployed are Monitoring Network and Incident Intelligence Management. Together, these modules will enhance the visualization and assessment of continuous air quality and weather data. The modules will allow BAAQMD to quickly identify likely sources of air emissions when reports or complaints are made, while better engaging with local communities by providing accurate data about incidents.

The Monitoring module will analyze data from the agency’s network of over 30 air quality stations every 15 minutes and display it in visual form overlaid on an electronic map of the region. On-demand reports showing pollution levels, wind scatter plots, and real-times arcs of influence can be generated to highlight the potential sources of emissions that have been identified.

The Incident Intelligence module provides a public internet portal through which members of the public can submit concerns about air quality. Each time a report is received, the module instantly and automatically generates a reverse trajectory of the most likely pathway the air has travelled, helping to identify the source.
