Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) is set to appoint Stefan Sommer, the former chief executive of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, to its management board as head of procurement, a person familiar with the situation said Monday.

The news was first reported by German newspaper Handelsblatt. The newspaper said Volkswagen's supervisory board would meet later Monday about the appointment.

Mr. Sommer stepped down as CEO at auto supplier ZF Friedrichshafen in December.

Volkswagen's previous head of procurement, Javier Garcia Sanz, left the company in April.
