Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) said Tuesday that it has appointed Thomas Sedran as the new chief executive of its commercial vehicles brand, effective Sept. 1.

Mr. Sedran, who previously oversaw strategy at the car maker, replaces Eckhard Scholz, who leaves the company at his own request, Volkswagen said.

Before joining Volkswagen, Mr. Sedran worked at German car maker Opel, where he briefly held the position of interim CEO in 2012.
