Loews Corp.'s Earnings Rise as Expenses Stay About Flat

Loews Corp.'s (L) profit rose in the third quarter as the
company's total expenses stayed about flat and its revenue
rose.
Loews reported earnings of $278 million, up 77% from the
comparable quarter last year. The company said earnings per share
were 88 cents, up from 46 cents.
Total revenue rose 2.5% to $3.61 billion. Revenue from insurance
premiums rose while net investment income fell.
Total expenses were $3.25 billion, down slightly from $3.26
billion the year before.
