Loews Corp. (L) profit rose in its first quarter, driven by a rise in investment income and an increase in profit at CNA Financial Corp. and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP, the company said.

Loews reported $394 million in profit, up 34% from the comparable quarter a year prior. Its earnings were $1.27 a share, up from 89 cents a share.

Revenue rose 4.9% to $3.76 billion.
