Airbus SE (AIR.FR), Safran SA (SAF.FR) and French industrial conglomerate Daher said Monday that they have teamed up to develop a distributed hybrid-propulsion aircraft demonstrator known as EcoPulse.

EcoPulse should start flying in 2022, the three companies said.

The partnership aims to design and develop technologies that will boost environmental efficiency in aircraft, they said.

"This distributed hybrid-propulsion demonstrator is a very important step towards preparing the certification standards for a more electric aircraft," the companies said.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
