LE BOURGET, France--Boeing Co. (BA) is in talks with other airlines for 737 MAX deals after British Airways parent IAG SA (IAG.LN) this week committed to take 200 of the beleaguered jet.

"We are in discussions with customer for MAX orders," said Ihssane Mounir, head of commercial plane sales for Boeing. Those talks involve airlines across the globe, he said at the Paris Air Show.

The MAX had endured an order lull after two fatal crashes in less than five months led to the fleet's global grounding in March. "It's been a devastating set of events," Mr. Mounir said.

Boeing has developed an update for the MAX to fix the flight control system flaw implicated in the crashes that killed a total of 346 people on the two planes. Regulators are poised to start flight testing that fix soon.

The focus for the plane maker, Mr. Mounir said, is safely returning the MAX to service. "We know we fell short," he said.

Boeing passed on some of the usual fanfare at the air show given the accidents, including announcing the billions of dollars it signed in deals at the aerospace extravaganza.
