Eni SpA (ENI.MI) has signed a collaborative agreement with the Italian region of Lombardy to roll out circular economy solutions as part of the energy company's goal to reduce waste, it said Monday.

One of the agreement's initiatives will be to carry out studies on optimizing the management of urban organic waste or the recovery of biological mud and plastic waste through recycling technologies.

The two parties will develop models for collecting and recovering used domestic oils for biofuel production, and for the recovery and reuse of industrial or domestic water.

Eni said they may also introduce renewable energy production initiatives in industrial areas that are being redeveloped or have already been upgraded.

With regards to mobility, both bodies will work on identifying ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to improve the efficiency of private cars, public transport and car sharing, it said.

Over the next four years, the company said it will invest over 950 million euros ($1.08 billion) to develop circular industrial solutions and another EUR220 million in research and development.
