Cybersecurity provider Acronis International GmbH on Wednesday said it raised $147 million in an investment round led by Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

Acronis said this sets its valuation at more than $1 billion, making the company a unicorn, or a privately held startup valued at $1 billion or more.

The Switzerland-based company, which was founded in Singapore in 2003, said it will use the funds to expand its engineering team, build additional data centers and grow through acquisitions.

Acronis said it also plans to accelerate business growth in North America in partnership with Acronis SCS, an independent software vendor and distributor for the public sector.

Acronis, which employs more than 1,400 people in 18 countries, said more than 5 million consumers and 500,000 businesses currently use its cyber-protection products.
