Ford Motor Co. will restart most European manufacturing from May 4, the company said Tuesday.

The American car maker will ensure social-distancing protocols for employees are in place and will provide face masks and personal care kits, the company said.

Manufacturing will resume in a phased approach at Saarlouis Vehicle Assembly Operations and Cologne Assembly Operations and Engine Plant in Germany. Manufacturing will also resume at Valencia Vehicle Assembly Operations in Spain and Craiova Vehicle Assembly Operations and Engine Plant in Romania, the company said.

Production will restart at the Valencia plant on May 18, while the U.K. plants will be confirmed at a later date.

The European branch of Ford will prioritize sold customer-vehicle orders from dealers and will gradually move toward full production, the company said.

Ford of Europe employs around 45,000 people.
