The U.S. housing starts and building permits for October will be published at 8.30 am ET Wednesday. Ahead of the data, the greenback held steady against its major counterparts.

The greenback was worth 1.3277 against the pound, 1.1867 against the euro, 0.9111 against the franc and 103.88 against the yen at 8:25 am ET.
