At 2.00 am ET Friday, the Office for National Statistics has released UK public sector finances and retail sales figures. The pound appreciated against its major rivals after the data.

The pound was trading at 1.3284 against the greenback, 137.88 against the yen, 1.2086 against the franc and 0.8946 against the euro around 2:03 am ET.
