Deutsche Post AG said Tuesday that its express division has ordered eight new 777 freighters from U.S. aviation company Boeing Co.

The German postal, freight and logistics group said the aircraft will allow DHL Express to expand its intercontinental air network to meet ever-increasing customer demand.

The first aircraft deliveries are scheduled for 2022, Deutsche Post said.

DHL's new aircraft will follow a previous purchase from Boeing, which was made in 2018, of 14 B777F aircraft. Ten of those have already been delivered to the company.

The agreement includes an option to purchase four additional freighters, Deutsche Post said. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the contract.
