Giorgio Armani SpA and Franco-Italian eyewear company EssilorLuxottica SA have agreed to renew their licensing agreement for the production and distribution of eyewear under the Giorgio Armani, Giorgio Armani Prive, Emporio Armani, EA7 Emporio Armani and A|X Armani Exchange brands, injecting new life into a partnership that dates back to the late 1980s.

EssilorLuxottica said Wednesday that it was renewing the current agreement for a further 15 years, starting in January. The agreement took effect in January 2013 and was due to expire in December.

Luxottica's founder and late chairman Leonardo del Vecchio joined hands with Giorgio Armani in 1988 to bring Armani-branded glasses to the global market.
