FTSE 100 Falls Ahead of Expected Lower US Open

0822 GMT - The FTSE 100 falls 0.8% to 7451 points ahead of an expected lower open for U.S. equities. Energy giants BP and Shell fall as oil prices drop on concerns that global growth fears and China's Covid-19 curbs will hurt demand. "Investors seem to be on edge this morning, adopting a defensive approach towards risk amid fears over the global economic outlook and concerns around inflation," FXTM analyst Lukman Otunuga says in a note. The overnight warning from social media group Snap that it will miss its revenue and adjusted earnings targets for the current quarter add to the risk-off mood, pulling U.S stock futures lower, he says. IG futures data show the Dow opening 260 points lower. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
