Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE plan to begin shipping pediatric
doses of their Covid-19 vaccines as directed by the U.S.
government, the companies said Friday.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the shots
for nearly 20 million children in the U.S. from 6 months to under 5
years. A national campaign to vaccinate young children is expected
to kick off as soon as Monday.
The Biden administration is preparing to get sufficient supplies
of the pediatric doses to hospitals, pharmacies and vaccination
sites. It also aims to encourage parents to sign up, though the
drive is likely to encounter the hesitancy and fatigue marking the
current phase of the pandemic fight.
