Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:MSPD) and Avago Technologies (Nasdaq:AVGO) today announced a collaborative demonstration of a 12-channel UHD-SDI (Ultra High Definition Serial Digital Interface) solution targeting 8K UHDTV broadcast video applications. The interface supports real time, uncompressed 8K video running at 120 fps (frames per second) over a 100m optical fiber cable and will be showcased for invited delegates at the APA Hotel & Resort during the week of the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition (Inter BEE), November 13-15, 2013 in Tokyo.

With rapid technological advances in high-resolution video formats, a new ecosystem of next-generation professional broadcast equipment will be connected using high-throughput, low-latency links, which are optimized for the transport of video. Mindspeed has developed a suite of physical layer SDI components and switching solutions to address this need. The 8K 120fps UHDTV demonstration is achieved using Mindspeed®'s M31517 multi-port reclocker and M21024 24x24 11.88Gb/s crosspoint switch and Avago's MicroPODTM 120G transmitter and receiver modules as well as 100m optical fiber cable.

Availability

Mindspeed's M21024 and M31517 devices are available now. Avago's MicroPODTM and MiniPODTM optical modules are in volume production now.
