Stephen J. Jones, a former Air Products and Chemicals Inc.
executive, will take over as chief executive of Covanta Holding
Corp. in March, the company said Monday morning.
Mr. Jones will succeed Anthony J. Orlando, who has worked as the
company's chief executive officer and president since 2004. Mr.
Orlando will continue to serve as a Covanta director. Prominent
real-estate investor Samuel Zell is the chairman of Covanta's
board.
"Tony has been instrumental in building Covanta, providing
outstanding service to our customers, and driving value for
shareholders," Mr. Zell said in a news release.
Mr. Jones, meanwhile, comes to Covanta after about 22 years at
Air Products. Most recently, he worked as senior vice president of
the company's tonnage gases segment and the equipment and energy
unit.
Mr. Jones left Air Products in August to pursue other
opportunities, according to a company filing at the time. His
resignation came more than two months after the company appointed
Seifi Ghasemi its CEO following pressure from activist investor
William Ackman to shake up its management.
