Dominion Energy Inc. on Thursday said it is expanding its
renewable energy partnership with Facebook Inc. by adding a new
100-megawatt solar facility to its fleet dedicated to the
social-media giant.
Dominion said it will build, own and operate the Sadler Solar
facility in Greensville County, Va., with operations are expected
to start by the end of the year.
Facebook will buy the environmental attributes generated by the
solar facility, which joins eight other Dominion solar projects in
Virginia and North Carolina that support Facebook's operations with
renewable energy.
The partnership has resulted in more than 690 megawatts of new
solar energy in the two states since 2017, the companies said.
Facebook aims to support its global operations with 100%
renewable energy this year, while Dominion has a goal of adding
3,000 megawatts of new solar and wind energy in operation or under
development in Virginia by 2022.
