NEW YORK, May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Generation by Knoll(TM),
the first work chair that allows you to sit and work the way you
want, has been featured in the June 2009 issue of Fast Company
magazine. The Generation by Knoll chair takes elastic design --
where a product rearranges itself in response to its user -- to a
new level. The Generation by Knoll chair will make its official
debut at NeoCon 2009, the Chicago contract furniture industry trade
exposition taking place June 15-17. In the Fast Company feature,
under the banner "Next Innovation," senior writer Linda Tischler
reports on Generation by Knoll and compares Generation to two other
work chairs. Her article, boldly illustrated with Generation by
Knoll in Lemongrass, focuses on the "test-drive" responses of three
"armchair quarterbacks -- an ergonomics fanatic, a design freak and
a Web guy" and their "test-drive" of each chair. Tischler writes:
"'Sit how you want,' the Knoll chair invites. And it means it. The
chair, created by New Zealand's Formway Design has a bendable Flex
Top that folds down like an armrest to accommodate sideways sitters
and then bounces back to a serious posture when the boss appears."
"Generation's eco-friendly materials and relatively lighter weight
(38 pounds) earn it four LEED points," she adds. Commenting on the
chair's Flex Back, Tischler's "design dude" reports: "The best
lower-back support of all three chairs." The article also describes
the chair's Flex Seat as "one of the secrets behind Generation's
acceptability." The Generation by Knoll Flex Back, allows for a
wide range of multi-dimensional movement. The chair's Flex Top
folds over the top edge of the back so you can rest your arms
comfortably in more informal positions. The Flex Seat offers 270
degrees of seat edge flex without a hard frame or obtrusive levers
along the seat perimeter. For added comfort and support, the
continuous lumbar carries the lumbar support in the Flex Back
through the design of the arms. "We are pleased with the initial
response to Generation by Knoll and look forward to sharing the
complete Generation by Knoll story with corporate, healthcare and
education professionals as well as the design community at NeoCon,"
said Andrew Cogan, Knoll CEO. "Our approach creates a new standard
for work chair comfort by offering unrestrained movement that
supports a range of natural postures and diverse workstyles."
