(NYSE:CNW) today announced that Neil Smith has been promoted to the position of director, quality assurance for its less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier Con-way Freight-Central based in Ann Arbor, Mich. This will include on-time service, reduced claims, invoicing accuracy, quality audits and individual service center procedural compliance to quality programs. He will also have oversight responsibility for ISO 9001 and 14000 and C-TPAT compliance. A 20-year transportation veteran, Smith began his career with Con-way in 1996 as a service center manager in Hayward, Calif. for Con-Way Western Express. In October 1999 he was named service center manager for the Tacoma, Wash. facility. In October of 2000, he was promoted to region manager for the Northern Region and was based in Seattle, Wash. He is a 1982 graduate of Elmira College where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. He will work out of the Con-way Freight-Central general offices in Ann Arbor.
