PR Newswire (US)
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RELM
Wireless Corporation (NYSE Amex: RWC) today announced that it has
received an order totaling approximately $6.6 million from the U.
S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service. This order is
comprised of RELM's long-time flagship D-Series digital P-25
portable and mobile radios. It is anticipated that the order will
be fulfilled during the first quarter of 2010. RELM President and
Chief Executive Officer David Storey commented, "We are delighted
with this substantial order from one of our largest and
longest-standing customers. For approximately two decades the USFS
has relied upon our BK Radio products in wildfire suppression
efforts; first deploying the E-Series analog radios, then G-Series
analog radios, and more recently migrating to P-25 digital D-Series
radios. Today, the USDA Forest Service has approximately 57,000
RELM radios in service; clear indication of their confidence in our
company and products. This highly successful and extended
relationship has been cultivated through a commitment to quality
and customer service. It serves as our blueprint as we build new
customer relationships with our leading-edge KNG products." About
APCO Project 25 (P25) APCO Project 25 (P25), which requires
interoperability among compliant equipment regardless of the
manufacturer, was established by the Association of Public-Safety
Communications Officials and is approved by the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security. The shift toward interoperability gained
momentum as a result of significant communications failures during
events such as the 9/11 attacks and Hurricane Katrina. RELM was one
of the first manufacturers to develop P25-compliant technology.
