Wolverine Expands Finlayson Lake Holdings
26 January 2011 - 2:00AM
Marketwired
WOLVERINE MINERALS CORP. ("Wolverine" or the "Company") (TSX
VENTURE: WLV)(FRANKFURT: 4LP) is pleased to announce that it has
expanded its holdings in the Finlayson Lake Project Area as part of
an option agreement with Strategic Metals Ltd ("Strategic"). (See
news release of September 16, 2010).
In the Finlayson Lake Project Area a total of 194 claims,
aggregating approximately 4,055 hectares have been acquired.
Through this expansion, two new properties were staked, being the
Reid Prospect and the Coach Prospect. The lands acquired are as
follows:
The Reid Prospect consists of sixteen claims, covering
approximately 320 hectares. It is located roughly 35 km south of
the Company's Loop property which straddles the Robert Campbell
Highway. Although the prospect was originally discovered in 1968,
the only work recorded is limited prospecting as well as VLF-EM and
geochemical surveys in 1988. Polymetallic sulfide mineralization
occurs in a series of narrow, NE trending quartz veins. In 1988,
Imperial Metals Ltd. reported that sampling had returned values up
to 1.67% Cu, 2% Pb, 1.7% Zn and 14 oz./ton Ag. The Company intends
to complete prospecting as well as geological and geochemical
surveys to determine the potential size of the prospective zone and
potential targets for drilling.
The Coach Prospect consists of forty-eight claims aggregating
roughly 1000 hectares. It is located about 15 km. east of the
Company's Gam property. The claims are underlain by Devonian to
Mississippian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks in fault
contact with serpentinized ultramafic rocks. Several exploration
programs were carried out during the period 1988-98 and have
roughly defined several soil geochemical anomalies for various
elements; eg: As, As-Ag, Cu-Ag and Cu-Zn. However, no
mineralization has ever been located in place. The Company intends
to detail the known geochemical anomalies with basal till sampling
utilizing an auger drill to fully evaluate the significance of
these anomalous zones and if warranted test them by core
drilling.
The Gam Property - An additional 40 claims were staked to cover
possible extensions to the known mineralized trends and alteration
zones.
The String Property - An additional 36 claims were staked to
cover potential source areas of soil geochemical anomalies which
are open to the north and northwest.
The Vivi Property (that was recently acquired see news release
of January 7, 2010) - An additional 54 claims were staked to cover
possible source areas for very significant gold and arsenic values
encountered in geochemical silt samples.
All of the properties described above have been acquired from
Strategic for the cost of staking and will become part of the
option agreement between Wolverine and Strategic.
Wolverine's land package in the Yukon now totals 2,585 claims,
aggregating approximately 52,346 hectares or 523 square kilometers.
There are now 2,042 claims in the Dawson Range area and 543 claims
in the Finlayson District.
Thomas Doyle, President and CEO, stated, "We are very pleased
with the large land package that Wolverine has been able to
assemble either through option or purchase. We look forward to the
upcoming exploration season when we can pursue the full potential
of these properties."
The Company's website, www.wolverineminerals.ca, will be updated
to reflect the expanded land positions in the near future.
The technical data in this news release has been reviewed and
approved by James M. Dawson, P.Eng, who is a qualified person under
the definition of National Instrument 43-101.
