Aker Solutions ASA said Thursday that as part of a consortium with Siemens Energy AG and Doosan Babcock, it has been awarded the front-end engineering and design contract for SSE Thermal and Equinor ASA's proposed Keadby 3 Carbon Capture Power Station in the U.K.

Over the next 12 months, the consortium will deliver the engineering design for the proposed natural gas power plant--with a generating capacity of up to 910 megwatts--that is to be equipped with a carbon-capture plant to remove CO2 from its emissions.

Aker Carbon Capture ASA will be the consortium's carbon-capture provider.

Keadby 3, located in North Lincolnshire, will have the ability to capture up to 1.5 million metric tons of carbon annually once it is operational, which represents around 5% of the government's 2030 target.

Aker Solutions said it will book the contract as order intake in the second quarter of 2022.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.
