Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA on Tuesday said it plans to power its production sites and clinics with green energy to become carbon neutral in its operations.

The German healthcare company said it aims to cut by half the emissions from the resources it owns and controls by 2030, from levels in 2020.

The company said it will gradually increase its consumption of renewable electricity with long-term power purchase agreements and will use green electricity credits to cover any residual emissions. Its goal, it said, is to be "carbon neutral" in its operations by 2040.

Fresenius said it plans to set a target for the so-called scope 3 emissions from its customers and supply chain, but it didn't set a date. It didn't spell out whether it plans work with third parties to develop a strategy to get to the required emissions reductions.
