Airtel Africa PLC said Thursday that all its Nigerian SIMs that
haven't been linked to a national identity number have had their
outgoing voice calls barred, affecting around 3% of total group
revenue.
The London-listed telecom and mobile money-services provider
said outgoing voice revenue for affected customers account for
around 8% of total revenue from Nigeria.
Airtel Africa said it continues to work with the Nigerian
regulator and is working to minimize disruption to affected
customers.
On Tuesday, the company said it had linked 73% of its active
customer base's national identification numbers to SIM
registrations after a directive by the Nigerian Communications
Commission.
Shares at 1116 GMT were up 3.70 pence, or 2.7%, at 142.50
pence.
