Compact Power and Turbo Genset in renewable energy collaboration
Compact Power Ltd today announces that it has signed an agreement to collaborate
with Turbo Genset in the development of a packaged biomass distributed
generation system.
Compact Power Chairman Nic Cooper comments: "This is a very exciting step in
our plans to offer modular systems for delivering combined heat and power from a
wide range of biomass feedstocks. The Turbo Genset technology is a key to
distributed energy systems of the future and we are delighted to have created a
collaboration with such high quality partners to develop an integrated system
that can make a significant renewable energy contribution in the industrialised
world and in developing economies with rapidly expanding energy requirements."
Commenting on the initiative Michael Hunt, Turbo Genset , CEO said: "Renewable
energy is an exciting and growing sector which plays well to our strengths in
power electronics and generators. The environmental benefits demonstrated by the
schemes we are involved in will be important in growing this market further"
Compact Power has a successful existing plant in Avonmouth producing energy from
a wide range of wastes. Using the same core technology the company is now
developing a "green biomass" module that will produce electrical power from fuel
crops (biomass).
Turbo Genset will supply the generator and inverter technology which, in
conjunction with a gas turbine genset and a recuperator being provided by Hiflux
Ltd, will improve the efficiency and power output of the overall system.
Compact Power uses pyrolysis and gasification technology producing high quality
syngas and carbon from hydrocarbon feedstocks. The strategy is based on
distributed systems - modular plant delivering economic local solutions
optimising energy utilisation and reducing transport impact.
Typical systems will deliver c.2.5 MWe. Plant will be packaged in containers for
"plug and play" installation. The first system will be commissioned in 2006.
