    First Calgary announces receipt of letter from the Algerian Minister of Energy
and Mines

     CALGARY, April 6 /CNW/ - First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. ("FCP" or the
"Company") announces that FCP today has received a letter from The Minister of
Energy and Mines of Algeria, Dr. Chakib Khelil, addressed to Mr. Garfield
Emerson, Chairman of the board of directors of the Company. The letter states:

     "Dear Mr. Emerson,
     I am deeply concerned about the recent public developments and proposed
     board changes at FCP, in particular the removal of Mr. Anderson. I value
     the work done by the Sonatrach and FCP management teams and would look
     negatively at any changes at this critical time. Any delays to the
     development of the project would be harmful to the Sonatrach FCP
     relationship.
