NatWest Group PLC said Friday that the U.K. Government has reduced its shareholding in the company to 43.97% from 44.98% previously.

In a regulatory filing the British bank said The Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury now owns 17.02 billion shares. The stake is worth 52.74 billion pounds ($64.47 billion) based on Thursday's closing price of 309.90 pence.

The U.K. government took control of the bank--previously known as Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC--during the 2007-08 financial crisis.
