Mirabela Nickel Ltd.'s (MBN.AU) Santa Rita mine in Brazil has produced over 1,000 metric tons of nickel concentrate and commissioning of the mine and plant are progressing well, the company said Friday.

Concentrate deliveries to Brazil's Votorantim have commenced. Mirabela has off-take agreements with Votorantim for 50% of output with the remainder to go to Norilsk Nickel for the next five years.

Santa Rita has an initial nameplate capacity of 26,000 tons of nickel and a mine life of 19 years.

Mining in the open pit continues with the current mining fleet, Mirabela said but expects delays in the delivery of the expanded mining fleet will impact on the mining ramp-up.

Additional equipment will arrive from December 2009, it said.
