Lenovo Group Ltd. said it has opened its first in-house manufacturing facility in Europe, as many companies reassess supply chains after the pandemic exposed some vulnerabilities.

Lenovo's new manufacturing plant is based in Ullo, Hungary, and it focuses on building server infrastructure, storage systems and high-end PC workstations used by customers throughout the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

The site already employs more than 1,000 full-time staff in a variety of engineering, management and operational roles, Beijing-based Lenovo said.

"As our business continues to grow around the world, this incredible new facility will play a key role in our plans to ensure future success and bring smarter technology for all to Europe more sustainably, quickly and efficiently," Lenovo EMEA President Francois Bornibus said.

Lenovo said it has more than 35 manufacturing facilities around the world, including in China, the U.S., Japan, India, Mexico and Brazil.
