Phillips 66 (PSX) reported flaring and equipment malfunction Friday at its refinery in Rodeo, Calif.

"RQ [reportable quantity] is exceeding greater than 500 pounds of sulfur dioxide being released at the refinery due to an equipment malfunction," according to a statement on the website of the California Emergency Management Agency.

The 120,000-barrel-a-day refinery is located in northern California, in the San Francisco Bay area.

It said the flaring began early Friday morning and was still going on at the time the report was filed, but that containment is in progress.
