U.K. oil major BP PLC (BP) plans to halt work at three platforms at its massive Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli oil project in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea for up to 15 days each for maintenance, putting pressure on Azeri exports, BP said late Tuesday.

The planned maintenance of the three platforms is scheduled to start on Oct. 20 and continue for about five weeks, a BP spokeswoman said.

"Production from the East Azeri, West Azeri and Central Azeri platforms will be suspended in a planned sequence to enable efficient maintenance work to be undertaken," she said.

BP is operator of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project, which produced 823,100 barrels a day last year. The consortium also includes Chevron Corp. (CVX), Statoil ASA (STO), Inpex Corp. (1605.TO) and Itochu Corp. (8001.TO).
