LONDON-- Copper miner Antofagasta PLC (ANTO.LN) Wednesday said
all its mines in the north of Chile have now resumed normal
operations after being suspended following heavy rains in the
Atacama Desert.
Operations had been suspended, primarily for the safety of
employees and others who work at the mines, but some processing of
stockpiled material was possible and continued over the period, the
company said.
"Although some production has been lost since the heavy rains
started on 24 March, the Group will work to minimise this during
the course of the year," it added.
Shares at 0934 GMT, down 7 pence, or 0.9%, at 726 pence valuing
the company at GBP7.2 billion ($10.7 billion).
