MONTRÉAL, March 27, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Over 1,000 people participated today in the Soupe Pour Elles event to raise awareness of women's homelessness. In addition to attracting strong participation, the campaign led by Gaz Métro has so far raised over $80,000 for the La Rue des Femmes organization, which helps homeless women in Montréal.

As part of the L'Effet A movement, which aims to foster ambition in women, five businesswomen, including Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro, took on a challenge. For Sophie Brochu, ambition can take many forms and she draws her motivation from never forgetting those who have lost everything. Her challenge was to organize a large event to bring together people from all walks of life to raise awareness of women's homelessness.

"This crazy adventure called Soupe Pour Elles has opened my eyes to the world of women's homelessness. I have met some wonderful people and bore witness to an unparalleled outpouring of generosity. I would like to thank partners and donators from the bottom of my heart, and I sincerely hope that this solidarity with La Rue des Femmes will help them continue to accomplish great things," noted Sophie Brochu.

During the midday event, soup and coffee were served to guests who were invited to continue offering donations to comfort ill and injured women. The La Rue des Femmes choirs gave a moving performance, with the audience joining in freely.
