ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Research by
Ergotron, Inc., a Nortek Company, and global leader in the
sit-stand workplace and classroom revolution, uncovered a startling
gap in the area of office wellness. In the 2016 JustStand® Index
report, although many employees report being aware of sit-stand
desks, only 16 percent have asked their employer for one. And
despite the rise in importance of wellness programs in businesses,
a third of those requests were denied. In an effort to provide
much-needed guidance and education to both employees and employers,
Ergotron's new resource center on Juststand.org packages
information designed to empower employees to ask for
movement-friendly workstations and educate employers on the many
organizational benefits of creating a culture of movement.
"Awareness is on the rise, but there's a dual problem facing the
workforce: individual workers don't know how to ask their boss for
a workstation upgrade and employers are sometimes hesitant to grant
the request," said Betsey Banker,
CWWS, CWWPM, Ergotron's vertical market manager, wellness. "There
are numerous benefits to both individuals and organizations in
creating a culture of movement at the office. With the creation of
these tools, employees and employers now have access to resources
to make an informed decision regarding workstations."
The resource center includes "Ask Your Boss" templates for
employees to download and customize to their situation and
management structure, with annotated research citations to help
support the request. The center also offers the WorkFit®
Champion Toolkit, making it easy to download multiple resources
with one click to share with corporate leaders, associations,
employees or anyone interested in learning more for meetings,
employee education, training or general awareness around the
office.
Included in the WorkFit Champion Toolkit:
- Customizable Ask Your Boss templates
- Movement-activating checklist and talking points for wellness
champions
- Informative e-books & white papers
- Educational infographics
- Tips for moving more
"This resource center and toolkit evolved based on the feedback
and requests that we get from our sit-stand community. We know
there are sit-stand champions out there and we want to make it as
easy as possible for them to keep spreading the word about the
importance of reducing sedentary work and lifestyles," said Banker.
The resource center also links to information on the latest
research around sedentary behavior, how to go beyond the office and
activate classrooms and tools to calculate sitting time and
calories burned from standing, making it a good starting point for
any individual or employer. Employers or employees may also request
sit-stand wellness training from experts at Ergotron through the
site.
